Summer on the Roof

24th of August

>> Czesław Sings in open air concert on top of Okrąglak

An open air concert organized by Alchamia on the roof of Okrąglak (round building in the center of Plan Nowy).
Czesław Mozil is a charismatic and crazy performer, he sings to the microphone placed on the level of his belly button, barely being interested in what is going on with the public, full of electric energy.
Czesław’s music is hard to define; he says it’s a mix of tango, pop cabaret, punk and intelligent rock.

New York Crasnals

23. aug (sat)

>>>New York Crasnals, concert, start 20:00
NYC come not form New York but from Krakow. The trio creates music on the border of post-rock, noise-rock and new wave. They do not hide the fact that they draw inspiration from such bands as Joy Division, Radiohead, Modest Mouse, as well as such artists as John Zorn or Frank Zappa. Drawing on such diverse influences, the group has worked out their own characteristic style which is full of tempo changes, dynamics and sound volume. As the musicians say themselves – NYC is a project–experiment, in which they decided not to set any barriers. So far, New York Crasnals have released two official albums – a debut EP album “Crack of City” [Every Color, 2006] and the newest LP album “Faces and Noises We Can Make” [Kuka Records, 2007] – which were very well received by the media.
In 2008, they took part in the most important Polish music festivals: Heineken Open’Er in Gdynia and Off Festival in Myslowice./after: myspace.com/newyorkcrasnals/

Coke Live Music Fest in Krakow

22nd and 23rd august

>>Coke Live Music Fest
It seems Alter Art’s formula for producing successful Music festivals is to find the biggest and best beverage sponsor for their target market and then find an abandoned airport to host the event. Fresh from producing the 8th edition of the Hieneken Open’er Festiwal at Babie Doly (former airport) in Gdynia in early July, Alter Art presents the 3rd Edition of the Coke Live Music Festival August 22nd 23rd at the Polish Aviation Museum (also ex-airfield) located at Al. Jana Pawla II 39 in Krakow.

As much as the Open’er is about drinking Heineken and rocking out to the best Indie Rock, Alternative, and Experimental acts in Poland and the world, the CLMF is about sipping Coke and swaying to the mainstream hits of the world’s best Pop, Rap, R&B acts. Timbaland, Sean Paul, Missy Elliot and The Prodigy are all set to perform at this year’s fest alongside other International and Polish artists TBA.

Timbaland is currently one of the most successful producers in the world having worked with artists from Jay Z to Justin Timberlake to Elton John to even Bjork. He is also an MC, composer, musician and DJ so expect the sparks to fly when he takes the stage. Sean Paul is the most successful dancehall/R&B artist in the world and Missy Elliott is arguably the most successful female Hip Hop/R&B artist in the world. Both are known for their tight beats, innovative styles and larger than life personalities. Legendary techno-punk innovators The Prodigy adds some serious spice to this years Coke festival and are certain to put on an action-packed adrenaline fueled performance.

Even though the Coke Live Music Fest is aimed at a much different demographic then the Open’er (more RMF than Last.fm), it still promises to be a true summer festival experience with three stages, food and merchandise vendors (waterfalls of Coke no doubt), interactive events and attractions (hot air balloon anyone?) plus knowing Alter Art there will be plenty of other surprises.

Where: Polish Aviation Museum Al. Jana Pawla II 39, Krakow
Tickets:
150 PLN – 2 day ticket without camp site
165 PLN – 2 day ticket with camp site

GAF at Stanger Cafe

22nd of August

>>Concert GAF at Stanger Cafe

One of Krakow’s strangest music venues will host what is sure to be one of the most progressive concerts of the month by Tenerife group GAF (for those of you who were asleep in geography class, Tenerife is one of the Canary Islands, which are also part of Spain). GAF is an experimental band started by Mladen Kurajica in 1999. GAF’s music aims to transcend all genres and styles of contemporary music by experimenting with many textures, acoustic sounds, composition structures and ambiences. From John Cage to Gamelan music and Steve Reich; from minimalist electronics to no-wave and art-rock with oriental flavor; from folk and indietronics to free jazz; from ambient and field recordings to experimental literature and visual poetry. Their musical mission may sound daunting but front man Kurajica is a versatile musician and a musical force performing in numerous groups such as Tupperwear (klitekture records, Spain/Germany) Emeth-HNM (Drone) and Af-gan (Antenna Records, UK). He is also a co-founder of Colectivo Drone- a cultural association dedicated to the spreading of experimental music and multimedia arts over the last eight years in Canary Islands, and co-organizer of CROMA and Próximos en Santa Cruz, two international cutting-edge music festivals both held in Tenerife. GAF performs as a quartet in Krakow.

Eluktrick at Imbir

16th of August (Sat)]

>>Concert Eluktrick

So it seems the temptations of summer’s sunny offerings got the better of our tired teathered feathers and Eluktrick flew the coop…
…but we have maintained radio contact and will be landing with a crash and a bang in Imbir (Tomasza 27) this Saturday night at 20:30.
You (and everyone you know) are more than welcome to spend the evening drinking and dancing with us in exhaultory and excessive style which is only befitting for a mid summer concert in tourist-clogged Krakow.

Please forgive the charge of 7 zloties we will demand of you but we had to airlift several band members out of several sticky situations (Dick 4 Dick play for keeps…)

Thanks for your time, stay safe, wear SPF 30, don’t drink &swim and we hope to see you Saturday night.
