Harlem Gospel Choir

Harlem Gospel Choir

It’s that time of year again when the Harlem Gospel Choir make their way back to Poland for a series of concerts.  Although it certainly isn’t a first that this talented ensemble isn’t in Poland there are few other touring Gospel acts in the world that can compare with the HGC.  Chór swoim śpiewem propaguje miłość, solidarność i zrozumienie, a serca słuchaczy wypełnia radością. Silne głosy wokalistów, skoczne melodie, taniec, radość, energia to cechy, za które cały świat pokochał gospel. Żaden widz, nawet ten najbardziej uparty, nie zdoła wysiedzieć w fotelu podczas występu Aniołów z Harlemu. If you still aren’t convinced then consider the fact that they have performed for Pope John Paul II, Nelson Mandella and Elton John (in that order) and performed with artists such as U2, Gorillaz and the Chieftans.  Just in time for Christmas, the Harlem Gospel Choir will put you in the holiday spirit like no other event this month.

DAT Politics

DAT Politics

God bless glitchy electro pop and all its syncopated minimalism, catchy melodies and deconstructed techno glory.  French trio DAT Politics have been on the cutting edge of this scene for a decade now. The group have a peculiar but signature style that is lighthearted, catchy and fun which sets them apart from other more serious contempories such as Matmos. Many of their songs include obscure sped-up or slowed down vocal samples (often to the point of chipmunk-sounding absurdity) and juxtaposed orchestra hits and synthesizers amidst pop undertones. The group also has a very distinct DIY [do it yourself:] visual style that employs hodge podge collage and a penchant for animal costumes which they incorporate into their live show by low fi VJ projectionry. The band is touring behind their forthcoming and already critically acclaimed album Mad Kit and you’ll find them at the hottest new live venue in town, Face 2 Face. DAT Politics is sure to make you tap your head and move your feet to their sexy little broken beat. VIVA LE BLIP BLEEP!

Uses an electric guitar, a casiotone keyboard and a loop pedal to create arrangements for her original and beautiful songs.

„An absolutely stunning session” Huw Stevens, BBC Radio 1, 2006
“On Paul ‘Orbital’ Hartnoll’s new solo album, Lianne Hall takes the place usually taken by Alison Goldfrapp to provide vocals shimmering somewhere between Imogen Heap and the ethereal cooings of Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins)” Andy Petch-Jex, musicohm. com, 2007
Lianne Hall is a performer „with a voice and style which sounds immediately familiar in its gentle warmth. While her sound may be largely country-esque and folk-inspired, her soul is definitely built on a punk rock foundation” Local Kid Records 2006

DEATH SENTENCE: PANDA!

25th Nov

DEATH SENTENCE: PANDA! is Paul Costuros, Chris Dixon and Kim West – a trio of San Franciscan noise deliquents, featuring members of Crack: We Are Rock, T.I.T.S, Murder Murder and Total Shutdown.

They add a cartoonish sense of drama to the trad Bay Area post-punk sound, using nothing more than a flute, a pitchshifted clarinet, a drum kit and a whole lotta hollering. Their music draws heavily on traditional Chinese and Korean folk music, ragtime, New Orleans-style marching bands and good ol’ hardcore punk.

UNSOUND

Unsound Festival, 18-25 Oct

Unsound was founded in 2003, to create an international festival of innovative music and sound culture, one that also acknowledged Krakow’s geographical position by striving to link the east and west of Europe in different ways.
Over the course of five years the festival has grown to become a prominent event on the Polish cultural landscape, one that has significance not merely in audience numbers, but also its contribution to the creation of a local context for current and sometimes challenging music, sound culture and related visual arts.
The aim to make connections in the region has been explored via various projects including Polish-German collaborative work with Berlin’s Club Transmediale, and also Unsound events co-organized with Sperm Festival in Prague, Next Festival in Bratislava, Detali Zvuku in Kiev and IN-Touch in Minsk.
This year unsound seems to be particulaty thrilling with  Michael Nyman, Fuck Buttons, Xiu Xiu, Benga, boxcutter, Colleen, Pan american (and others) performing in Krakow’s clubs, churches and museums
