2nd Annual Divine Comedy Theatre Festival

little-dude-with-torch

Surely by this time you’ve spied this endearing little fire-bearing sasquatch on posters around town.  Do not fear him!  For he comes in peace.  He’s for the 2nd annual Boska Komedia festival which is going on from 7 to 14 December.  It’s an international theatre festival, but the plays are only in Polish — some of the best ones of the last year.  Check their snazzy-looking website for the schedule; there is a lot of good theatre coming up in the next few days.  Hurry up, though, as tickets are in short supply.

Tango Milonga every Saturday

tangosaturday1

At the great Tango Milonga Klub Masada you are invited to join the passion every Saturday night. It’s in Skawińska Str 2, in Kazimierz, and starts at 2030 h with open end. The DJ is Leszek Bajkowski who also organizes this Milonga. Further information at www.tangokrakow.prv.pl.

“Gogol Bordello cannot be stopped — we can only hope to contain them.”

hutz_big

That’s Ukranian Eugene Hütz there riding on that drum, the prime brain of the ecstatic and unrestrainable gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello. There are eight of them – the oldest is 53 year old Russian accordionist Yuri Lemeshev from Sakhalin. The American drummer, Eliot Ferguson, it is said, is “the only sane person in the band.” The experience of seeing them in concert is “sexual, mystical and cultural, almost obscene.” They’re a good band to put on the stereo if you need someone to dance on a table. Even if you have no interest whatsoever in the music, this is a show you definitely shouldn’t miss if you can scrape together the 95 zł (85 in advance), as you only get to be alive for a limited time. They’ll be playing Wednesday, 9 December 2009 at the Rotunda located on Ulica Oliandry no.1.
