Always on a frontline

Krakow has become recently a scene of Bollywood super production “Mujjahir”, which simply means “the Exile”. We don’t know much about the storyline, except that it is  thrilling thriller with lots of special effects and surprising plot twists. Yesterday for example, the explosion tore the Main square, so huge that it was well heard in our private rooms on Plac na Groblach, and so dangerous , that some shocked, wounded and bleeding crew members, found their way to our hostel on Sarego in desperate search for help.

seasonal affective disorder [in Krakow]

winter blues

… or SAD, as it is known, affects us all in these dark winter months. At our hostel and elsewhere in Krakow you can see people weeping into their soup, covering their faces with their hands and they mourn the universe’s indifference to man. What can you do if you’re having trouble adjusting? You can purchase special lights to bask in as the above graph suggests (do they work? Who knows!) or maybe just have some warm soup. Soup is like sunlight, right?

Hooray! Spring.

The miracle of new growth.

Appreciators of fine weather everywhere will be pleased to know that it is Spring here now. Poke your face outsied of the hostel windows and watch as new growth sprouts terrifyingly from local plantlife, lurching to life before your frightened eyes. Cower from the rain! Fear the prurient trees, which are literally having sex with each other through the air. And of course enjoy the gentle warming sunlight:

Sunday – day of open air trade

One frozen day captured by Zenit on Hala Targowa – source of all goodness, things you need, you might need and you absolutely don’t need but because of the good flow you buy them. The other place worth to visit is Plac Nowy – more specialized in clothes.

Beware while you hunting! Don’t get too many useless objects!

Krakow’s breakfasts

Maybe not as fancy as the one on the photo (yellow tomatoes, egg fried in toast, the oscypek on the side decorated with pomegranate jam) few places in Krakow offers nice breakfasts, on the top of our list are:

Pierwszy lokal na Stolarskiej po lewej stronie idąc od Małego Rynku – which means “the first place on Stolarska street on the left side coming from the direction of Maly Rynek” the best between 7-9 a.m., good morning coffee! and tasty, fresh sandwiches, to grab on the way to search for Krakow’s adventures or to consume inside.

In Dynia Resto Bar on Krupnicza St 20,  interior and names in menu might nicely surprise you: Starved Student, Farm Boy, Hazel High, California Cool – that’s just a few they offers, they have as well more standard breakfast menu – yogurts &, cottage cheese in a company of bread, butter & or eggs – scramble, omelettes, until 12:00.

Cava Cafe & Wine – you have to across a glowing menace, get to the other side of the river and turn left, right next to Drukarniayou will find Cava, they serve breakfast sets as in Dynia with all you might need for a good morning (coffee, orange juice, toast, jams, cheese, ham, vegetables) but what the most exiting is soft-boiled eggs served in a glass!

Mouse On The Keys At Klub Re!

the mysterious trio that goes by the name Mouse On The Keys

“Little is known,” writes a site dedicated to reviewing Japanese music, “about the mysterious trio that goes by the name of Mouse on the Keys.”

Here’s what we know:

  • They have a cool minimal poster up around town
  • Their music might be “experimental,” “hardocore,” “hip-hop,” and “somewhere between jazz and post-rock”
  • Like so many bands in our modern day they have a MySpace page where you can listen to some of their music and see if your computer has a Japanese character set installed
  • They are playing at Kraków’s Klub Re on March 8 at 20.00
