Garaż – art & music gallery

If you go a bit outside of the city you can find interesting spots, like for example Garaż on Kasztelańska st.

Artistic project based in real garage by graphic couple Nina & Piotrek. Place works pretty well from last year, every month exhibition, concert or just a meeting for friends from friends.

Tonight in Garaż – Pwee3000 showing his works for the very first time and concert of Świniary who describe their music as hahard rock and hard cock. Short description says Pwee3000 was raised by travelling, skateboarding and snowboarding. Go and check by yourself how he absorb the world and spit it out in his drawings.

(Briefly) Escape Dubstep in Kraków

see the no-step party invitation on facebook

Come to Rozrywki 3 on Wednesday, 18 January (from 20.00 until 4.00, they say!!!) for the “No-Step” party / concert.

The NO STEP party invites you to imaginate the times when tribal and minimal beats did not yet rule the dancefloors of Kraków. Let us listen instead to the nostalgic and romantic sounds of the eighties and yes even earlier. Gird yourself up for a decent dose of guitar noise.

Several bands will be playing, and you’ll sit at home incessantly trawling Facebook, and you will be making a terrible mistake by missing:

  • Kaseciarz – Surf rock straight from and to the heart (like a syringe full of epinephrin) of Małopolska. Everything they’ve recorded, they’ve recorded for free. No-budget is the new low-budget. Check them out  and hear their stuff here and here.
  • The Pleasure Is Mine – The band formed in 2008 when they met at a party in the long-departed (and their bio says LENDARY – I didn’t know it was LEGENDARY) B-Side Club. Cold wave, they say, Shoegazer, so wear nice shoes. Their first record will appear on the scene in the spring. Know them, love them through all orafices here and here before you go.
  • By Proxy – A two-person group which sprouted and spread four long years ago right here in Kraków. Presently they’re developing new material live, so that’s what you’ll hear here and here.
  • Cat’s Whiskers – Two musical members (what’s a musical member?) and one in charge of visuals. Does that make the third a visual member? All three members share in a love of cats and of The Smiths.

All this costs 10 PLN to add to your life, which is less than the price of 1/4 of an onion in most countries. Put on your snowboots and dance yourself silly.

Grabek

A new concert series offered by 100.5 FM Radiofonia wants to bring not necessarily the most well-known artists but the “most real, most promising, most rebellious, most experimental” to the stage.

As the first in this series they offer Grabek. Grabek, who “for the past 6 years in the music school learned to operate a perfect bow.”

His debut will be on April 1st in Kraków at 20.00 in the club called Rozrywki Trzy. Which is not to be confused with Kraków’s drunk tank, for which the club is named.

Ticket price? “Whatever the performance is worth to you,” they say.

TERRIBLE DISEASE at Naukowa Club in Kazimierz!

aspergillos (stolen from the American Centers for Disease Control)

Plum and Woody Alien (deeming their previous band names to palatable and normal) have a new project called TERRIBLE DISEASE.

Their manifesto:

TERRIBLE DISEASE builds a wall of sound around you. You will be unable to turn toward the bathroom, you will not be able to rise from the kitchen floor. You will not be able to identify objects. What’s that coming toward me? Is it a grapefruit, or a bulldozer? After TERRIBLE DISEASE you will not be able to tell.

“If you listen long enough to TERRIBLE DISEASE,” they say, “you will likely die. That’s our goal: to kill you. We hate you because you’re ugly, messy, neurotic, selfish and pathetic. Without you the world will be a better place.”

Terrible Disease are:

Arek – bass guitar
Meow – Vocals
Peter – guitar / vocals
Zbyszek – drums

microscopic enemy -- look away, look away!

TERRIBLE DISEASE claims to have no influences. They sound like nothing!

Hear the belligerent roar of the void, swirling up to swallow your sad little soul on Saturday, April 9 in Kawiarnia Naukowa. Doors open at 20.00. The concert will cost 10 PLN.

Mouse On The Keys At Klub Re!

the mysterious trio that goes by the name Mouse On The Keys

“Little is known,” writes a site dedicated to reviewing Japanese music, “about the mysterious trio that goes by the name of Mouse on the Keys.”

Here’s what we know:

  • They have a cool minimal poster up around town
  • Their music might be “experimental,” “hardocore,” “hip-hop,” and “somewhere between jazz and post-rock”
  • Like so many bands in our modern day they have a MySpace page where you can listen to some of their music and see if your computer has a Japanese character set installed
  • They are playing at Kraków’s Klub Re on March 8 at 20.00

H Natural (Steve Hogarth) – Rotunda

steve-hogarth-h-natural

Marillion’s massive popularity in Poland certainly plays a big part in
the bands continued existence.  This certainly hasn’t been lost on
vocalist and frontman Steve Hogarth who is bringing his latest solo
tour to Poland.  H Natural is Hogarth’s solo project and it consists
of Steve on Piano pouring his heart out and playing a mix of songs
from his career as a solo artist and of course from Marillion and
earlier bands. Another element of H Natural is that Steve tells
stories about the songs and also gives anecdotes from his many years
on the road.  The concert will be intimate and relaxed which may be a
surprise for you hardcore Marillion fans out there. One of the other
unique  aspects of Marillion that has helped them build and maintain
their legions of loyal fans is their innovative website and direct
online interaction. In keeping with this tradition, H Natural is
recording every show of the tour and posting them on its website -
www.h-tunes.com – for free download.  So if you come to the concert…
don’t yell anything you might regret;)
