It gathers not book illustrations but pieses of art inspired by books. And books are presented here as source of conflict in social and individual-spiritual context

“The underlying concept is to create an exhibition around the people, phenomena and notions linked with American culture and of significance to the generations of Poles whose youth was spent in the 1950s, 60s and 70s under the realities of the People’s Republic of Poland and its political propaganda. It thus embraces the facts that became a part of our collective consciousness and helped to shape our world view. “The American Dream” is a kind of artistic and educational experiment., presenting not only works of art, but also installations, films, including documentaries, large format photographic prints and sound tracks created especially for the project.

The most notable part of the exhibition is the display of works by American photorealists, on show for the first time in Poland. Their paintings are a window on to American reality in its most characteristically typical manifestations.

>>Film Festival; 6th Planete Doc Review

One of the single largest unifying cinamatic events will take place the weekend of May 8-10.  In 22 different cities accross Poland 1,000s of people will watch the exact same documentary films at the exact same time.  This is not an elaborately coordinated gimic however because WE the people will collectively decide which films are awarded some sort of metal or plastic trophy… The films to be viewed are all Documentaries from different countries that have all recieved some sort of award in the past year or two. If you are a film buff and especially enjoy documentaries you won’t want to miss any of this year’s films because they are the absolute cream of the crop (Sundance, Berlinale, Venice, Toronto Award Winners etc.).  All screenings will take place in Kino Pod Baranami. As part of the festival there will also be a special meetings in 10 cities (Krakow included) on Saturday May 9th at 19:30.  There will be actual debates about the film  Wiek głupoty (Franny Armstrong) which raises questions about environmental politics and societies role in taking care of the planet.  This festival is a truly landmark event in Polish Cinema and a great chance to tap into the elusive collective consciousness… Check out the full schedule on www.docreview.pl

>>Sacrum Profanum festival

This is the sixth edition of the festival. This year will be dedicated in entirety to the most important artists and musical trends of 20th century Germany.
The organizers claim that this year this is the largest event in Poland and even in Europe that promotes contemporary German music. The list of artists that will perform is quite long and varied:  Kurt Weill, Karlheinz Stockhausen, Hans Werner Henze, Helmut Lachenmann, Heiner Goebbels, Wolfgang Rihm and Kraftwerk. Many post-industrial buildings like factory floors, rolling mills, galvanizing mills will be used as concert halls.

the exhibition is a project of young adepts of art curating studies on Jagiellonian University.The idea underlying the Sensulaia is to engage also other senses than sight in a process of absorbing art. This weekend will see 10th edition of Rozstaje (Crossroads) Festival. Invariably for 10 years, The Crossroads present the best of etno and world music form Poland and outside Poland. The festival is open for tradition but also for creative transformations and unconventional experiments. The Crossroads are where traditional music, jazz, folk, rock and classical music meet to nurture each other.
